Chelsea in for Cahill

Chelsea in for Cahill

Wednesday, 21/12/2011

England defender Gary Cahill looks set to join Chelsea in the transfer window.

The Bolton centre half is out of contract at the end of the season when he could move on a free.

But the Blues look like paying around £5m to land Cahill to stiffen up their defence and renew his international partnership with John Terry.

Stamford Bridge boss Andre Villas-Boas is also likely to offer Josh McEachran or one of his other young stars on loan until the end of the season to help ease through the deal.

Bolton don't want to lose Cahill but know they must cash in now so that they can use the cash to boost their battle against relegation.

The Blues, already set to lose Nicolas Anelka next month, know they also face a challenge to keep striker Didier Drogba, yet to agree a new contract and wanted by a number of clubs.

They could also face a fight to hang on to France midfielder Florent Malouda who is on the shopping list of rich Russians Anzhi Makhachkala.
