Chelsea set to spend

Chelsea look set to spend big in the January transfer window as they try to close the gap on the two Manchester sides and Tottenham.

Blues boss Andres Villas-Boas is said to have a £150 transfer kitty and the first £7m or so of that will go on Bolton defender Gary Cahill.

With Luka Modric unlikely to move across the city from Tottenham unless there is a massive bid, Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik is another target. The 24-year-old Czech is said to interest Man United, but Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted there will be no big spending next month.

Also moving to London with Hamsik could be his team-mate Edinson Cavani (pictured). The 24-year-old Uruguay striker is a likely replacement for the departing Nicolas Anelka, potential departure of Didier Drogba and the goal shy Fernando Torres.

Juventus winger Milos Krasic is also being linked the the Blues. The Serbian's agent claims that Chelsea are interested in the 27-year-old who is not playing as much as he would like in Italy.
