Defender set for Chelsea exit

Chelsea look set to sell central defender Alex to German giants Bayern Munich.

An £11m deal could see the Brazilian leave Stamford Bridge where he has been pushed down the pecking order by the arrival of countryman David Luiz.

Atletico Madrid and Paris St. Germain are also interested in the 29-year-old who was bought by Chelsea in 2004 but was allowed to play at PSV Eindhoven on loan for three years because of a work permit problem.

Meanwhile, the Blues are still waiting to find out the full extent of the knee injury suffered in training last week by midfielder Michael Essien.

There have been fears that the player will be out of action for months or that his top-flight career could even be under threat.
