Everton handcuff charge
Wednesday, 01/02/2012
A man has been charged after the Everton v Manchester City game was halted last night by a fan who handcuffed himself to a goalpost.
City keeper Joe Hart could only look on in disbelief as a man fastened himself to the upright shortly before half time in the Premier League game.
Police and stewards moved in and after play had been held up for around five minutes they were able to remove the fan.
Supporters around the ground booed the man as he was taken away by police after bolt cutters were used to remove the handcuffs.
Police said John Joseph Foley, 46, from Southport had been charged with going onto the playing area during a football match. He is due to appear before Liverpool magistrates on February 17.
Everton won 1-0 to put a dent into Man City's title hopes.
