Gyan blow for Sunderland
Thursday, 15/12/2011
New Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has had his hopes of recalling loan striker Asamoah Gyan dashed.
The Ghana frontman, on a season-long loan to UAE side Al Ain, does not have a recall clause in his contract.
The Black Cats were given a hefty fee when they allowed their £13m record buy to depart for the season.
Gyan's rapid departure from the Stadium of Light went down like a lead balloon with former boss Steve Bruce.
Stadium of Light supporters were also far from impressed that their star striker had departed for what is believed to have been a massive pay day.
Gyan said: "I am on loan for a year so we will have to see what happens at the end of the season."
O'Neill is now likely to move into the January transfer market for a big frontman to bolster the Mackems' frontline.
