McCarthy fights on

Tuesday, 24/01/2012

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has shrugged off rumours that he will be the next profile manager to get the sack.

Bookies have installed him as their favourite as the next Premier League boss to be axed.

But McCarthy has admitted that his relegation problems have not been made an easier by a difficulty in bringing in players during the transfer window.

The former Republic of Ireland gaffer admitted: "It's a results business but performances have been very good. We have played very well in recent weeks and I cannot question the perfomances at all."

Without influential midfielder Jamie O'Hara for a further two weeks at least, the Molineux boss is set to lose Karl Henry for three games after the midfielder was sent off against Aston Villa last weekend.

He wants to bring in new players but says it will not be just to make his squad bigger.

"Iit is difficult to get anyone, particularly anyone who fits straight into the team," said McCarthy. "It's got to be someone who will improve the team, not just to fill up the squad."
