Meireles didn’t sign for the money

New Chelsea signing, Raul Meireles, has denied that money was the motivation behind his deadline day move from Liverpool to Chelsea.

The Portuguese international midfielder handed in a transfer request just minutes before the close of the August transfer window, forcing through a move from Anfield to Stamford Bridge.

Meireles made 44 appearances for Liverpool, scoring five goals after joining The Reds last summer.

The former FC Porto man, who will once again link-up with Andre Villas-Boas, defended the reasons behind the move.

"People think I am a Judas and that it was because of the money. It was not because of that.

"I will explain it later. I am not the only one to blame for my exit from Liverpool.”
