Newcastle land France midfielder

France midfielder Yohan Cabaye is set to join Newcastle United.

The Lille star has told club officials he is set for a £4.5m move after triggering a release clause in his contract.

The 25-year-old is leaving the French champions where he spent the whole of his career so far to join fellow countryman Hatem Ben Arfa, who missed most of last season with injury.

The Geordies, who have been signing younger, mid-priced stars with potential, have also been linked with Lorient striker Kevin Gameiro, West Ham frontman Demba Ba (pictured) and Manchester United's 30-year-old hitman Dimitar Berbatov, to replace the departed Andy Carroll.
