Newcastle new Mariappa bid

Newcastle United have made one more final bid for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew admitted: "We have made our final bid.

"If he doesn't come today he won't come to this club. The ball is in Watford's court."

Newcastle have so far had three bids rejected for the player who can play at centre half or right back.

The 25-year-old has now also attracted interest from Wigan and Arsenal.

It is understood that Newcastle started the bidding at around £1m and may now have reached £3m.

The Hornets, who have said they do not need to sell, are thought to be trying to hold out for £4m.

Pardew said that Mariappa is his only iron in the fire on transfer deadline day.
