Newcastle target ‘would cost £50m!’
Wednesday, 28/12/2011
Montpellier have rubbished talk that Newcastle could buy their France striker Olivier Giroud for around £8m.
Club owner Louis Nicollin claims the hitman would cost the Geordies up to £50m as he has two years left on his contract.
The 25-year-old, who has also been linked to Arsenal, is a Geordie target after a deal for Sochaux's Modibo Maiga collapsed after his medical.
Giraud, who has two France caps, has hit 24 goals in 52 league games for Montpellier after joining them from Ligue 2 Tours last year for around £2m.
He was the top scorer in the second flight with 21 goals in 2009-10 and has hit a rich goal trail this season too, making him one of the hottest properties in Ligue 1.
