Rodgers stays at Swansea

Friday, 27/01/2012

Brendan Rodgers has been rewareded for his success with Swansea City by being handed a new three and a half year deal.

Having led the Swans to the Premier League for the first time he has now turned out a side that has earned the respect of fans everywhere for its fine football.

Rodgers, 39, is expected to tie up the fine details of the contract over the weekend to commit himself to the Liberty Stadium to summer 2015.

The former Watford and Reading boss took over Swans in summer 2010 and last year turned down the chance to manage Northern Ireland.

Rodgers worked as a coach at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho who has praised the Irishman's ability to get to the very top.

He has been working on a one-year rolling contract but Swansea have acted after rumours of other clubs keeping tabs on the manager.
