Striker to join Newcastle

West Ham striker Demba Ba is set to sign for Newcastle - as Magpies' skipper Kevin Nolan moves in the opposite direction.

The two deals are not connected as Ba is thought to have triggered a release clause in his contract following the Hammers' relegation.

Ba, 26, only arrived at Upton Park last January from Hoffenheim and agreed a three-year deal. He hit seven goals in 12 Premier League appearances.

The Senegal forward had been set to join Stoke City in the January window, but failed a medical.
