Wales forward David Cotterill has left Swansea City by mutual consent, but the club are confident of securing the signing of Chelsea’s Josh McEachran on loan.

Cotterill’s first team opportunities have been limited this term, with the excellent form of Scott Sinclair and Nathan Dyer providing an unbreakable barrier for the 24-year-old.

The summer arrivals of Danny Graham and Wayne Routledge also meant that any chance the former Wigan midfielder had of making an impact all but diminished.

Cotterill who failed to make an appearance for Swansea this season, joined in January 2010 from Sheffield United following an impressive loan spell.

Despite making an early impact following his move from Bramall Lane, he made just 16 appearances last season, and a dip in form saw him sent out on loan to Portsmouth for the remainder of last season.

Brendan Rogers expressed his disappointment at Cotterill’s exit but insisted that it was best for both club and player, wishing him all the best for the future.

“David is a talent, but he needs to find a club where he will play regularly. He is still young enough to make an impact and I’m sure he will.”

One man who will be keen to come in and make an impact should a deal happen, is Chelsea’s McEachran, who looks set to join the Swans on loan until the end of the season.

McEachran was due to arrive at the Liberty Stadium for the weekend but the move has been delayed due injuries at Chelsea, and he is expected to be on the Blues bench.

Despite this minor hiccup Rogers is still confident of concluding a deal for the England Under-21 midfielder and is confident that he can have a big impact.

“Josh will bring penetration and quality in the final third of the field," said Rogers.

McEachran will be the second midfielder to be brought in on loan by Rogers after the arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson last week. Youngsters Rory Donnelly and Darnel Situ have also joined on permanent deals.
