Tottenham transfer rumours

Despite their best efforts Tottenham failed to end Manchester United's unbeaten streak over the weekend - that run now extended to 21 games.
Regardless of the score line it was a promising performance from both teams. While United did not look like the team they are capable of being, they proved they have the ability to grind out points against fellow title contenders when they need to.
Tottenham on the other hand put in a good looking performance but failed to convert any of their chances on the United goal. While both teams may see the match as dropped points in the title race, a draw would appear to be a fair result.
David Beckham was in the stands to watch the game as two of his old teams clashed as he is now training with Tottenham again.
United defender Rafael, who managed to contain Gareth Bale in the two teams previous meeting, had a slightly less successful outing this time round being sent-off for two bookable offences. This left Bale with much more room to roam free down the left wing, but he could not convert this into any goals for his club this time around.
Rafael van der Vaart had another successful game for Tottenham, coming close on a number of occasions, although not being able to add to his goal tally.
For United, Berbatov appeared to be a particular disappointment, failing to find his best form against his former club. Rooney meanwhile showed that he is slowly coming back to form with a decent performance that was only missing a goal.
Soon after the match it was revealed Tottenham's bid for South African midfielder Steven Pienaar (pictured) had been accepted by Everton. Were Pienaar to join the club, as has been rumoured for a long time now, he would become Tottenham's second South African signing this month with the transfer of Bongani Khumalo also recently completed.
Rumours have also resurfaced about Spurs interest in Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano. It was thought that the club would sign the Brazilian last summer but a deal could not be reached over the transfer fee. It is thought that Sevilla may let the World Cup star leave for slightly cheaper this month.
Other rumours that have circulated about Tottenham include the interest in Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel and further interest in Uruguay striker Luis Suarez.
