Award for Nolan

Newcastle's Kevin Nolan is the Championship Player of the Year.

The Newcastle midfielder, their leading scorer so far this season with 13 goals, headed off the challenge of West Brom's Graham Dorrans and Nottingham Forest keeper Lee Camp.

Former Bolton captain Nolan, who recently celebrated the birth of a son, has skippered the Magpies during the absence of injured Alan Smith, has stuck with the club after their relegation last season.

"I had unfinished business," he said. "There were a lot of lads in our dressing room who wanted to stick together and get Newcastle back where they belong."
