Boro star wanted
Tuesday, 20/04/2010
Former England Under-21 defender David Wheater could be set to leave Middlesbrough.
The locally-born centre-half committed his future to the Teessiders following relegation last season but with Boro struggling to make the play-offs his days at the Riverside could be numbered.
Wheater, 23, regarded as one of the best central-defenders outside of the top-flight is on the shopping list of a number of clubs but could follow former team-mate Robert Huth to Stoke City.
He could command a fee of around £5m which would give boss Gordon Strachan funds to keep rebuilding his side.
