Cardiff boss wants end to handshakes
Tuesday, 14/02/2012
Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has called for an end to the pre-match ritual of handshakes.
He believes that the gesture can cause more trouble than it is worth and would scrap it now.
The bitter weekend clash between Manchester United and Liverpool nearly became hotter when Luis Suarez refused to shake hands with Patrice Evra.
United and England defender Rio Ferdinand also did not offer his hand to Suarez.
Mackay said: "At the end of the day for a handshake being the centre of attention in the news, I'm not sure that's too right.
"It was certainly something that never happened when I was playing. You shook hands at the end with the players you wanted to.
"If you didn't want to shake hands with someone at the end of the game, you didn't."
The FA recently scrapped the handshake before the FA Cup clash between Chelsea and QPR because of the impending court case involving John Terry who is alleged to have made racist remarks to Anton Ferdinand. He is to plead not guilty to the accusation.
But football's ruling body have said they have no intention of totally scrapping the pre-match gesture.
