Pompey name boss

Michael Appleton has been named as the new boss of Portsmouth.

West Brom's assistant coach has moved to Fratton Park after the two clubs agreed a compensation fee.

Appleton 35, takes over from Steve Cotterill who has moved to Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

Former Man United trainee Appleton quite playing eight years ago because of a knee injury and moved into coaching.

He was in temporary charge at West Brom after the sacking of Roberto di Matteo and has won many plaudits for his coaching abilities.
