Saints star staying

Southampton defender Jose Fonte has agreed a new deal.

He has signed a contract to stay with the Saints until 2015.

The 28-year-old moved to St. Mary's from Crystal Palace a year ago and has proved a stalwart in the Southampton defence.

The Portugal-born player, who has played for Benfica, said: "It was a very easy decision and I am extremely happy to have signed.

"This is the only place I want to be and is one of the happiest days of my life," said the £1.2m buy.

There was still 18 months on the player's existing contract but Saints are determined to hold on to their best players as they look to return to the Premier League.
