Solskjaer edges closer to Pompey
Monday, 31/10/2011
Old Gunnar Solskjaer is now firm favourite to take over the vacant manager's job at Portsmouth.
Pompey want him at Fratton Park - and the former Man United striker could be keen on the move after guiding Molde to the Norway title in his first season.
Solskjaer, 38, would see the move to the Championship as a step up and another step forward in possibly taking over at Old Trafford in the future.
After winning the title, he said: "The club has waited 100 years for this. We have been close several times so this was well deserved."
Portsmouth need someone to take over from Steve Cotterill after his departure to Nottingham Forest.
They are understood to have held preliminary talks with Solskjaer who has already held a coaching role at Man United.
They would see him not only as a good young manager with potential, but also as someone with the right contacts in the game to bring in valuable loan players.
