Southampton confirmed their promotion back to the Championship as they beat Walsall 3-1 at St. Mary’s with youngster Alex Chamberlain on the scoresheet.
The Saddlers will spend another campaign in League 1 as the only team that could overtake them on the last day, Dagenham and Redbridge, lost 5-0 at Peterborough meaning they were demoted back to League 2 after just one season.
Huddersfield, who were involved in a thrilling 4-4 at home to Brentford, will face Bournemouth in the play-offs whilst the Posh will play MK Dons, who beat Oldham 2-1 at Boundary Park as player-manager Paul Dickov made a late substitute appearance.
And the striker wasn’t the only manager to make an appearance as Exeter boss Paul Tisdale brought himself on in injury time, much to the surprise of his players, of their 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.
It was his first appearance in 13 years as the Grecians finished one point outside of the play-offs.
