The league leaders were beaten in a top of the table clash to allow the team behind them to take advantage and move to the summit.
Southend suffered a resounding 3-0 defeat away at promotion-chasing Cheltenham, who in turn registered their fifth successive win to move within a point of the Shrimpers.
Crawley now lead the way following their 3-0 triumph over fellow play-off hopefuls Burton with Claude Davis’ acrobatic strike the pick of the goals.
Shrewsbury disappointingly lost 1-0 at Aldershot, who ended a run of three straight defeats.
Swindon extended their own run without loss to 14 games after they drew 1-1 away at Bristol Rovers in their local derby, although Paul Buckle’s side needed a late goal from Danny Woodards to snatch a point.
Macclesfield and Gillingham and Morecambe and Oxford United both played out goalless draws and all stay on the fringes of the top seven.
Torquay boosted their own play-off hopes with a fantastic injury-time strike by Kevin Nicholson, which gave them a narrow 1-0 victory against in-form Barnet.
Rotherham edged a 3-2 thriller against Hereford at Edgar Street and despite leading 2-0 at one stage, they were pegged back to 2-2, before Johnny Mullins’ low shot proved the difference.
Port Vale beat Dagenham 2-1 in the capital to send the hosts to the foot of the division.
ccrington recorded their first win on the road since February as they beat AFC Wimbledon, who are seemingly in freefall, 2-0 in South West London.
Byron Moore’s late leveller for Crewe denied Aidy Boothroyd a victory his first game in charge of Northampton at Sixfields, as the match ended 1-1.
The same score-line was recorded at Valley Parade, where similarly, Bradford City needed a last-gasp goal from James Hanson to snatch a 1-1 draw against Plymouth, who finally move off of the bottom of the league, albeit on goals scored.
