Saints alive!
Southampton beat Carlisle to lift JP Trophy
Southampton’s season began with a ten-point deduction that looked like it would consign them to a second relegation – but now they are celebrating silverware.
The Saints beat Carlisle 4-1 to lift the Johnstone’s Paints Trophy at Wembley.
Ricky Lambert opened the scoring from the spot after a handball, Adam Lallana made it 2-0 with a header before half-time.
Early in the second-half Papa Waigo headed a third and Antonio hit the fourth with a shot from the edge of the box.
Sub Gary Madine headed home a consolation from an Ian Harte free-kick.
Their hopes of quick return to the Championship have faltered recently and they would need snookers to reach the play-off places.
