Win for Fergie’s United!
Sunday, 29/05/2011
Darren Ferguson has guided Peterborough United back to the Championship with a stunning 3-0 victory over Huddersfield in the League One play-off final.
The son of Sir Alex Ferguson made sure at least one United won this weekend - and he did it at Old Trafford in seven stunning minutes.
There was nothing to separate the two sides going into the second-half. Stats showed they were exactly even.
But then former Man United trainee Tommy Rowe hit a first goal after 78 minutes, a Craig Mackail-Smith shot was deflected in two minutes later and just seven minutes after the first strike skipper Grant McCann curled an amazing free-kick into the net.
Ferguson had won back-to-back promotions during his first spell with Posh and returned to the club earlier this year after being sacked by Preston. Now he has taken Peterborough back up at the first attempt, earning his third promotion with them.
The goals in the play-off final took the club's tally to 129 for the season, making them English football's top scorers.
For Huddersfield it was more play-off disappointment, having being knocked out at the semi-final stage last season.
