Michael Ballack is out of the World Cup finals thanks to the injury he picked up in the FA Cup Final.

The Chelsea midfielder received an ankle injury during a tackle by Portsmouth’s Kevin-Price Boateng which has put him out of action for several weeks.

Ballack, 33, who captains his country, missed the 2002 World Cup due to suspension and was disappointed when his country were only third on home soil in 2006.

He has never been on a losing international side in a game in which he has scored.
