Match fixing probe
Monday, 09/05/2011
Around 300 top football games are at the centre of investigations into match-fixing.
Match officials are said to have been bribed to ensure that the games ended with certain scorelines to that big money could be won on bets.
FIFA are now set to launch a special initiative with international police forces to guard against match-fixing.
Investigations involving scores of games are already underway in Finland and Germany.
It is understood that some friendly internationals are also at the centre of investigations.
One man is in custody in Finland. And in Germany a Croatian convicted of match-fixing in 2005 is currently on trial with six others, charged with manipulating 47 specific matches.
