Rio out of World Cup

England captain Rio Ferdinand is out of the World Cup.

He picjed up a knee ligament injury in training as the Three Lions prepared for the finals.

The Manchester United star, who has been plagued by problems all season, hobbled out of hospital after a check up. He was injured in a clash with Emile Heskey.

Tottenham defender Michael Dawson is flying out to South Africa 2010 as a replacement.

England can still replace players in their 23-man squad up to 24 hours before their first game, against the USA.
