Adebayor signs for Spurs

Friday, 26/08/2011

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has joined Tottenham on a season-long loan after weeks of speculation linking the former Togo international striker with a move to White Hart Lane.

The 27-year-old striker joined City in a £25 deal from Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal in 2009, but has fallen out of favour since Roberto Mancini took charge at the Etihad stadium.

Adebayor spent last season on-loan with Spanish giants Real Madrid and was in impressive form, helping Jose Mourinho’s men win the Cope del Rey and he scored twice against Spurs in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg at the Bernabeu.

A regular scorer in the Premier League, Emmanuel has so far grabbed 81 goals in 186 appearances in all competitions in England.

He will not be eligible to make his Spurs debut this weekend as Harry Redknapp’s team face Manchester City on Sunday.

Spurs have also announced the capture of Spain U21 midfielder Yago Falque on a season-long loan from Juventus.
