Striker Christian Benitez has left Birmingham after City turned down the chance to keep him.

The Blues had a deal to sign the Ecuadorian they had on loan all last season but have decided not to take up the option.

Although he contributed to the team, Chucho only scored four goals in 36 games and has returned to Santos.

With loan keeper Joe Hart recalled by Manchester City, Birmingham are believed to be on the verge of signing Manchester United shot-stopped Ben Foster.

Foster, whose career at Old Trafford has been held back by injuries, has said that he might have to leave United to further his career and England hopes.

Sir Alex Ferguson may be willing to sell the 27-year-old keeper for around £4m. He was a big hit during his two seasons on loan at Watford.
