Manchester United could have a new-look back line after the summer – with Nemanja Vidic set to leave Old Trafford.

The impending arrival of Chris Smalling from Fulham has pushed the exit door open for the Serb.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson will also want to bring in experience as Smalling is eased into the squad – and that could lead to a move for Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The Italian, who has also been linked to Manchester City, claims he is happy to stay in his home country.

But he may find it difficult to resist the lure of United given that Juventus are having on-field problems.

Fergie will also probably join the band of clubs chasing Porto’s Portugal central defender Rolando, who is valued at £18m.
