Arshavin set for exit
Tuesday, 31/01/2012
Mega-rich Russian Anzhi Makhachkala have open talks about landing Arsneal forward Andrey Arshavin.
They want the playmaker before the transfer window shuts tonight but may have to wait.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would be reluctant to part with the 30-year-old without getting in a replacement.
Arshavin, who has failed to live up to expectations since arriving at the Gunners, is out of contract in 18 months.
The player has also said he would only return to his homeland with former club Zenit St. Petersburg.
Arsenal bought Arshavin from Zenith in January 2009 for £12m and are keen to get back as much of that transfer fee as possible.
Wenger has backed the player despite hefty recent criticism from Arsenal fans for indifferent form.
The Russian, a star at Euro 2008, has made 127 appearances for the Gunners and netted 30 goals.
