Barton in talks with QPR

Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton is holding talks with Queens Park Rangers over a potential move to Loftus Road.

The 28-year-old has been at St. James Park since 2007 when he joined the club in a £5.8m deal from Manchester City.

Barton is in the final year of his contract with The Magpies and was recently linked with a move away from the club after being made available on a free transfer.

However, the controversial star remained in the North East and has started both of the Magpies’ Premier League matches so far this season.

Barton would become QPR’s first signing since Tony Fernandes took over the club last week and, if he does join the Loftus Road outfit, he could soon be facing his former employers as Rangers host Newcastle in the Premier League next month.
