Beckham the Olympian?
Thursday, 15/07/2010
England legend David Beckham has stated his desire to play for England in the 2012 Olympics and European Championships.
Though the former captain would be 37 by the time London hosts the Olympic games, Beckham insists he will be available to play a part in the competition he did so much to bring to these shores.
If he were to make the Olympic team, and therefore the 2012 European Championships too, it would extend his international career to an extraordinary 16 years.
"I hope to play this season for England and I've always said that I'll be available. I'm not ready to step aside but if I don't get picked again then I am very proud of my record - 100 starts in 115 appearances. But I still believe I have a part to play.
“If I’m still playing and I’m still considered to make a difference to the team, I’d love to be involved.”
