Beckham’s back!
Friday, 03/09/2010
David Beckham, England's most capped outfield player of all time, is set to make his comeback from injury next week.
Having ruptured his Achilles' tendon (pictured) while on loan with AC Milan earlier this year, Beckham was forced to sit out what would've been a record breaking fourth World Cup appearance.
Initially he had been expected to return on October 1, but the super fit 35-year-old is set to return ahead of schedule.
The midfielder has confirmed that he hopes to be involved in LA Galaxy's first game of the MLS season, against Columbus Crew on September 11.
"I'll keep my fingers crossed and hopefully will play in part of the game against Columbus," he told his club's website.
"I'll be on the bench and hopefully I'll get on the field for 15-20 minutes."
Beckham was ruled out of England contention last month by under-fire manager Fabio Capello, but was quickly ruled back in after a public backlash.
"I prefer to choose the younger players," the Italian backtracked. "But always the door is open for all the players."
Though Beckham will definitely miss today's game against Bulgaria and next week's clash with Switzerland, he would be fit for England's tie in October, when the Three Lions take on Montenegro.
* Is there still room for Beckham in the England midfield?
