Bellamy heads for Cardiff

Out-of-favour Craig Bellamy is set to complete a six-month loan switch to Cardiff City, sources close to the club have revealed.

Despite being linked with a reunion with Mark Hughes at Fulham, while Harry Redknapp is a known admirer, Bellamy is set to drop down into the Championship in a bid to help Cardiff's promotion push.

It is exactly the boost the cash-strapped club need, after losing influential midfielder Joe Ledley to Celtic and having star striker Michael Chopra demand signings or he'd leave.

Redknapp revealed on Friday that Man City had blocked any approach from Spurs for the 31-year-old, with speculation mounting that, although Roberto Mancini didn't want Bellamy in his first team squad, he didn't want to see him helping a rival, either.

Though they would've received a fee for loaning Bellamy to another Premier League club, City have been prepared to take a financial hit - paying his wages for the duration of the loan, too.

When it became clear that Bellamy didn't fancy a return loan stint with Celtic, City quickly agreed terms with Cardiff and the switch is likely to go through as early as tomorrow morning.

* Cardiff fans, was this the signing your club needed to take them up a notch?
