Bolton bag Wheater

Bolton have signed Middlesbrough defender David Wheater.

The centre half, who was due to be out of contract next summer, has agreed a three and a half year deal at the Reebok.

Wheater committed himself to Boro after they were relegated to the Championship the season before last.

But with the Riverside team struggling in the second-flight he has had to move in a bid to keep alive his England hopes.

No fee has been revealed but it is understood to be around £2m for the 23-year-old who was born in Redcar, not far from Boro's ground.
