Boot goes into poppy ban
Thursday, 10/11/2011
England players could stage their own legitimate protest against FIFA's poppy badge ban.
Theo Walcott, Ashley Cole and other players wore boots with poppies emblazoned on them during training today.
That has sparked hopes that some stars will lace up these boots for the friendly fixture against Spain on Saturday.
Football's ruling body have so far refused to back down and let England have embroidered poppies on their shirts.
Prime Minister David Cameron and the Duke of Cambridge have both called for a FIFA U-turn.
FIFA did relent by saying that players can wear black armbands which will carry images of poppies.
But now the players might have their own simple answer to the poppy problem.
Shoot has also urged the FA to give fans at Wembley red and white sheets so they can create their own poppy logo in the stands.
