Chelsea increase Modric bid
Monday, 11/07/2011
Chelsea have increased their bid for Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric to £27m.
The Blues were told to forget buying the White Hart Lane star last week when they offered £22m.
Now Stamford Bridge chiefs have come back with a bigger offer following the row over the 25-year-old's bid to leave North London.
Modric had a showdown meeting last week with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy when he was told he would not be leaving the club.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who flatly denied reports that the Croatian had been barred from training with the first-team squad, said: "He is a great player and one we do not want to lose."
Modric claims the club have gone back on a gentleman's agreement made last year that he would be allowed to leave if a bigger club came in for him.
The Tottenham Player of the Year, who is under contract until 2016, is desperate for Champions League football.
He joined Tottenham from Dinamo Zagreb in 2008 for a then club record £16.5m.
