City’s record buy
Wednesday, 11/08/2010
Sunderland have sold striker Kenwyne Jones to Stoke City for £8m.
The fee is a transfer record for the Potters, who have been linked with moves for top strikers all summer.
The 25-year-old Trinidad and Tobago star has signed a four-year deal at the Britannia Stadium.
Former Sunderland boss Roy Keane said he would want £40m for the striker - current manager Steve Bruce said after the sale that it was his duty to keep trying to build a better team.
Bruce could now move for Manchester United's Danny Welbeck or Man City's Roque Santa Cruz to back up Stadium of Light hitman Darren Bent.
The arrival of Jones will now almost certainly signal the end at Stoke for striker James Beattie.
