England forward Joe Cole could join Liverpool.

New Anfield boss Roy Hodgson has admitted to talks with the former Chelsea midfielder, now a free agent.

Liverpool would normally not have met Cole's wage demands - but as they are able to land him on a free transfer, the Reds are well and truly in the race.

Since the summer began, Cole has been linked with Man United, Tottenham and Arsenal. Spurs have had talks with the former West Ham player. It is understood Man United have not entered the race.

Arsenal would certainly interest Cole, as a move to the Emirates would allow him to stay in London. But it is unlikely that Arsene Wenger could match salary offers made elsewhere.
