England 1 Ghana 1
Tuesday, 29/03/2011
England drew 1-1 against World Cup quarter-finalists Ghana in a pulsating friendly at Wembley.
In front of an enthusiastic 80,000 crowd, England took the lead just before half-time when Liverpool's £35m striker Andy Carroll slotted home from the edge of the penalty area.
As both teams battled in an enthralling first half Ghana keeper Richard Kingson and Joe Hart in the Three Lions goal both pulled off great saves.
The second 45 minutes wasn't as frenetic, although there was total commitment and some hard tackling before Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan scored just before full-time to give Ghana a deserved draw.
England boss Fabio Capello had run a lot of changes to the team that won 2-0 in Wales on Saturday - and nearly all of his players gave performances that will have him thinking about team selection before the side's next Euro 2012 qualifier.
Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing was the official Vauxhall Man of the Match - but there was also a steady, eye-catching display from Bolton centre half Gary Cahill.
