England stars quit

England stars quit

Sunday, 08/08/2010

Wes Brown and Paul Robinson are the latest England stars to announce their international retirements.

They follow Emile Heskey who quit the England side after the team's failure at the World Cup finals.

Man United defender Brown, 30, who had been selected for this week's friendly against Hungary, personally told boss Fabio Capello that he didn't want to play. He has won 23 caps for his country.

Blackburn keeper Robinson, also 30, has won a total of 41 caps. He too had been selected for the Hungary game, but said he was quitting the international scene to concentrate on his club career. Ironically, the former Tottenham shot-stopper had returned to his best form following his move to Ewood Park.

The announcements that Brown and Robinson had quit will be an embarrassment to Capello and the FA as the players' selections had been announced just hours earlier.
