Man United equalled a 12-year-old Champions League away record with their 1-0 win at CSKA Moscow. Antonio Valencia's goal four minutes from time made it 14 away games without defeat - a feat last achieved back in 1997 by Ajax.

Chelsea also made it a good night for English clubs with a 4-0 home win over Atletico Madrid. Salomon Kalou celebrated his new contract with two goals, Frank Lampard ended a barren scoring spell with a third and the fourth was a late own-goal by Perea.

Man United and Chelsea now both top their groups, as do Arsenal.
