Fans get say on artificial pitches
Thursday, 16/02/2012
Fans, clubs and referees are to be asked their views about bringing back artificial pitches.
The Football League is asking all interested parties to give their views through their website.
The FA, Premier League, Professional Footballers' Association and League Managers Association will also be consulted between now and April.
Plastic pitches were banned by the FA more than 20 years ago but since then they have improved dramatically.
Many clubs in Leagues One and Two are in favour of the surfaces as they would not have to be replaced as often as turf and there would be less chance of games having to be postponed, resulting in a loss of vital revenue.
Andy Williamson, League chief operating officer, said: "It is a decision that will clearly have implications for all those with an interest in professional football."
Artificial pitches are allowed by UEFA and FIFA. The Football League could make a decision as early as June.
