Germany defender Per Mertesacker looks set for a medical at Arsenal.

The 26-year-old is believed to have left his international squad to fly to London to discuss a move from Werder Bremen.

Mertesacker would cost around £10m and is expected to be joined by at least two other big signings at the Emirates Stadium.

The 1.98m (6ft 6in) central defender, who has 75 international caps, could be joined by Brazil defender Andre Santos and South Korea striker Park Chu-Young.
