McClaren no to Hammers
Monday, 16/05/2011
Former England boss Steve McClaren has ruled himself out of the manager's role at West Ham.
"It is very flattering to be linked with a club of West Ham's size and historic stature, also one that has tremendous fans. However, at this moment in time I do not wish to be considered for the position," said McClaren.
The club's owners were believed to want the former Middlesbrough, FC Twente and Wolfsburg gaffer to replace sacked Avram Grant.
Relegated Hammers were linked with McClaren - currently out of work after his dismissal by Wolfsburg - back in January. But they stuck with their Israeli manager.
McClaren, 50, won the Dutch league with Twente and was also well respected during his time with Middlesbrough, who he led to the League Cup, their first trophy ever.
Heavily criticised after England failed to qualify for Euro 2008, McClaren would relish the chance to prove that he is now a far more experienced boss.
