Hammers new boy

New boss Avram Grant has started his rebuilding of West Ham by signing midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger on a free.

The former Aston Villa and Stuttgart man arrives from Lazio who he had joined during the January transfer window.

Hitzlesperger, 28, is Grant’s first signing since taking over at Upton Park.

He has more than 50 caps and although he took part in the qualification games his lack of matches in Italy resulted in him missing out of Germany’s World Cup squad for the finals.
