Henry returns

Saturday, 31/12/2011

Thierry Henry is on the verge of an amazing return to Arsenal.

The deal to bring the Frenchman back to the Emirates Stadium on loan is set to be concluded on Monday.

Although he could appear on the bench for the Gunners at Fulham that evening it is more likely that he will be in the squad for the FA Cup game at home to Leeds United on January 9.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has finally confirmed that the Henry deal is going through but has stressed that the necessary paperwork and insurance cover has yet to be sorted.

Henry will arrive on loan from New York Red Bulls on a six-week loan deal.

But is believed that Arsenal might be able to extend that until the end of February - to take in the North London derby against Tottenham.

Henry, 34, who has been training with the Gunners since last month, scored a club record 226 goals in 369 appearances.

He left the club in 2007 to join Barcelona and went to the MLS last year.

Wenger, who loses Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho next month to the Africa Cup of Nations, said: "We need a short-term solution.

"Thierry has the quality and capacity to help us out. You do not find players on the planet of this quality who are available for two months. He is a super-intelligent guy and he is a special talent."
