Irish give up
Saturday, 21/11/2009
The Republic of Ireland have given up in their attempts to force a World Cup play-off replay with France.
The FAI said their appeals to FIFA, world football's governing body, for a re-match appear to have fallen on deaf ears.
France striker Thierry Henry, who admitted his handball which cost Ireland the tie, had called for a replay of the match.
Irleland skipper Robbie Keane has praised Henry for admitting that he handled the ball and calling for a re-match. France's Football Federation refused to back the call for the game to be replayed.
