Lamps lights up Wembley

Stand in England captain Frank Lampard scored the only goal as England beat World and European champions Spain.

The Chelsea midfielder, who had taken over the armband from big pal John Terry, headed the 49th minute goal to give Fabio Capello's team a big boost.

Spain dominated the game for long periods but England showed resilance which would have pleased their Italian manager who had missed his son's wedding to be at the game.

He would also have been pleased with the contributions of substiutes Jack Rodwell and Danny Welbeck who will have done their hopes of going to Euro 2012 no harm.
